Wrote this to round off the end of first year (2018/2019). Why not post it I guess (12/03/21).
I'm sat in at a cheap white student kitchen table as I wait for my chicken kiev to cook. I feel good, just come back from a jitsu (the trick is to shout really loud when you punch, the senseis love it) so that good feeling is kinda balanced out with disappointment from being cancelled on by a friend.
A good place to start thinking about the end of term and where I'm at.
I started Ju Jitsu
I miss punching and kicking people but it turns out twisting wrists and throwing people is pretty fun too. I'll be a yellow belt by the end of the week and I've met some great people. Looking forward to coming back to it in the new year.
I started climbing.
Bouldering, no belay like above but that's the general idea. It's actually given me a sense of different directional pulls for movement classes so that's fun. It's inspired me to start working on parkour, something I'll develop in the new year (feel like climbing on crates in the student village car park at 6am is a bit...odd.)
I've been writing poetry and some prose- at least one poem everyday since October. I've started reading and drawing alongside my studies to get my thoughts down. I've started dancing and moving for fun (Grotowski and Chekov are my new best friends.) I've seen the sea and started developing recipes.
I miss running and kung fu (for the people but also the fighting style and the fitness aspect.) It's been weird how easy it's been to be lazy with what food I'm eating- found myself eating a good 500g of chocolate a day to help me get through at some points. To be honest I feel like I let myself get stuck for a while- stuck in my head about all the amazing opportunities at LIPA, all the amazing people there- problem with banging on about that is, I've found myself shying away. Not doing what I love as much- talking to people. OK, so I rationalised it and ended up being creative alone in my room but that's my main pointer for next year.
